About me

Dr. Prieto-Valdés has created an impressive array of paintings, sculptures, and writings that speak well of his quest for freedom. His memoirs, written like-novels, as well as his paintings, deliver strong indictment against violation of civil and human rights. His art evokes ideas together with physical reality, symbolic and expressive art.

 

In his own words, taken from his Artist Statement:

 

More than a lovely hobby my artwork is a duty to my family, to my friends, and to the community. My artwork chronicles social and political circumstances incorporating a critical view on cultural issues. I paint, sculpt, and write using my spiritual intuit developed during years of effort learning how to use this gift, to say what I see from above when I jump over the obstacles of our life.

I would like to paint deities but my artwork is like the photographs, of the life, sometimes bitter and salty, exasperating my soul. However, I put in my photo-camera a burlesque lens to make working a joy; using the mysterious language of pigments and shapes; dimensioned from the terra-firma to the dreams; mixing all the colors of nature to refract together in transparent white light; as the pluralism brightens, maturing from different concepts in assembly, basing it on the qualitative addition of different concepts, to produce a resilient arrangement of one of the strongest bastions of humanity—The Democracy.

My artwork is a research of the mentality, historical analysis of the social movements, ideological circumstances, needs and aspirations; it portrays the needs and aspirations; It advises the prosperity-hunters…
